Jami Ul-Alfar

Jami-Ul-Alfar is a mosque located on Main Street in Pettah, Colombo 01. It was constructed during the British colonial period, to afford the Pettah merchants of Islam, to offer prayer during the day.

The mosque is colloquially known as the "Red Mosque" because of its Moorish mosaic of red and white brick. This contrasted brick pattern makes the mosque visually outstanding, in contrast to the surrounding commercial buildings.

Kechimalai Mosque

Perched by the beach, in Beruwela, Sri Lanka is one of Sri Lanka's historical treasures. The Kechimalai mosque straddles the beach, just off the Galle Road, and stands today as one of the oldest mosques standing today.

The mosque was built by a people led by a Yemeni prince who arrived in the island around the 12th century. It marks the seed of their settlement which has since then prospered. The mosque is not as elaborate as it's location. The building it self is humble masonry construction.
